FROM 0 TO 60 IN A YEAR ::
Stone Lucy is the creative partnership formed in October of 2005 between guitarist Will Decher, bassist Garrett Lyon, and lyricist/vocalist Adam Parker.
The band’s first recorded output was the four-song Shrine to Lie By EP, released in February of 2006. At the time, Stone Lucy was in the process of auditioning drummers to compliment their sound when they went into the studio with Kevin Rumley, a member of the Ashville, N.C. based group, Bandazian. From February through July of 2006, Stone Lucy built their local name recognition through the strength of their songs and the few shows they were able to play at house parties.
In July of 2006, drummer Chris McKinney was welcomed into the group, who thanked the drum gods for sending them a player who could keep pace. The quartet immediately entered the studio with Bandazian singer/guitarist/songwriter Alex Keena. Keena, who produced the group’s first demo engineered the three song demo that came out of these sessions.
Syndicated Summer, the culmination of both recording sessions, has just been released as the groups first “shopping demo” in January of 2007. Co-Produced by Alex Keena and Stone Lucy, Syndicated Summer serves as a celebration of the life and death of Daryl Gillespie, a life long friend of singer Adam Parker who died from undetermined causes in 2006.
Syndicated Summer has seemingly established the Stone Lucy creative template: Decher and Lyon writing and directing the music and Parker bringing lyrics to the group, then rearranging the tunes to get away from standard pop song structures…. Syndicated Summer is, on one hand, a hard, experimental, and emotive EP from a new band. On the other hand, it is tempered by polished songwriting, great vocals, and tastefulness.
Odd time signatures, heavy riffs, and solid songwriting are the foundation of Syndicated Summer. The most impressive thing about this EP is what it says about the possibilities of this band; awesome on its own, this disc will make you anticipate everything to come from this Richmond powerhouse.
